Hiking in Stowe, Vermont: The Perfect Outdoor Adventure

It's an excellent getaway for outdoor enthusiasts, with plenty of opportunities for hiking, strolling and exploring the surrounding natural beauty. With so many hikes to choose from, you’ll want to be sure to choose one of these favorites.
Stowe Recreation Path
The Stowe Recreation Path is a 5.3-mile paved trail that winds through the heart of Stowe, passing by some of the most scenic areas in town. The trail is perfect for walking, biking, and jogging, and is accessible for people of all ages and fitness levels. You can access the path from Topnotch and follow it all the way to downtown, while passing (and stopping by) great shops, restaurants and picnic tables.
Bingham Falls Hike
For those looking for a bit more of a challenge, the Bingham Falls Hike is a great option. This 1.3-mile trail leads to Bingham Falls, a stunning 25-foot waterfall that cascades into a refreshing swimming hole. The falls are a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, so be prepared to share the space, but with multiple smaller swimming holes and a path that leads along the river, there's space for everyone.
Wiessner Woods
Wiessner Woods is a beautiful 2-mile trail that takes you through a mix of forest and meadow. The trail is well-maintained, and the terrain is relatively easy, making it a great option for families and beginner hikers. Fido is welcome as well! Look for the mailboxes along the path that sometimes have dog treats in them!
Sunset Rock
If you're looking for a stunning view of Main Street Stowe, Sunset Rock is the place to go. This short, 0.3-mile hike takes you to the top of a rocky outcropping, where you'll be rewarded with a picturesque view of the village. The hike is relatively easy, and the view is well worth the effort. Sunset Rock is an excellent spot for watching the sunset, so be sure to bring a camera and capture the moment.
Sterling Pond Hike
This 2.6-mile trail is a bit more challenging than some of the other hikes in the area, but the stunning views of Sterling Pond make it well worth the effort. The trail takes you up through a dense forest and over rocky terrain, eventually leading you to the beautiful alpine lake at the top of the mountain. The clear water of Sterling Pond is perfect for swimming on a hot day, and the surrounding mountains provide a breathtaking backdrop for a picnic lunch. Be sure to hike slightly beyond the pond to find yourself at the top of Smugglers’ Notch Ski Area lifts and a gorgeous view from of the other side of the mountain.
Stowe Pinnacle
Stowe Pinnacle is another popular hiking destination in the Stowe area, offering a challenging but rewarding trek to the summit and a view that is the most photographed of Mount Mansfield. The trail is 3.7 miles round trip, and hikers can expect a steep climb with an elevation gain of over 1,500 feet. The trail takes you through the woods before opening up to stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys from the summit. The panoramic view from the summit is well worth the effort, and on a clear day, you can see all the way to Lake Champlain, the Adirondack Mountains, Canada, and Mount Washington.
